I had to Post This

While on my routine Flickr search today, I came across this photo. Madballs are awesome and Mishka’s iconic Keep Watch logo brought the blood-vein eyeball back into the street culture’s radars. Their New Eras pop up all over the world in photos and with D.A.R.T.’s ongoing support of urban cycling and fixed freestyle, it’s not difficult to make the connection here. Whether or not Renks or his friend here know what Mishka is, it’s still the first thing that came to mind when I saw this!

Tour de Lead Graffiti

Ray from Lead Graffiti emailed me about their Tour de France homage project. The Tour de Lead Graffiti project consists of 23 posters in 23 days, all reflecting a stage’s events:

“This is a project that has been banging around in our head since the summer of 2004 when Jill and Ray took a 4-day break during the middle of a study abroad trip to London with 24 of Ray’s Visual Communications students from the University of Delaware.

Ray was walking from their London flat on Tavistock to the Russell Square Tube station and saw a bunch of his students in Student Travel Associates making travel reservations for various trips during an upcoming break in our schedule. Ray decided to ask about his own trip for the 4-day break which happened to be over the opening weekend of the 2004 Tour de France that would start in Liége, Belgium.”

Check out the initial seven here and keep checking in for future posters as events warrant!

Trek and Hydro74: Fabian Cancellara’s “Spartacus” TdF Bikes

I love how Tracko disappears for weeks and comes back with gems like this:

“Trek Bicycle and renowned illustrator Hydro74 have teamed up to create a Spartacus-themed aesthetic appearing on the Trek Madone 6.9 SSL and Speed Concept 9.9 to be ridden by LEOPARD TREK’s Fabian Cancellara in the upcoming 2011 Tour de France. Known throughout the cycling world as “Spartacus” for his gladiatorial physique and warrior mentality, Cancellara will compete on both bikes throughout the entire race. The paint scheme will soon be available for order Friday, July 1 through Trek’s Project One custom bike program.”

“To create a truly unique bike for a unique rider, Trek hit up the graphic illustrator known as “Hydro74” to lend his talent to the project. Evoking iconography of the classical Greek warrior-state of Sparta, Cancellara’s bikes are emblazoned with the Thracian helmet and the dory, a spear employed by all Spartan warriors. Through the direction and collaboration with Trek’s in-house design team, Hydro 74 created a series of icons including the helmet, spear, shield, and a carved serpentine floral pattern.”

Ideum Apparel: The Others Experiment

The folks at Ideum Apparel gave me the heads up on this news:

“The Others Experiment was created to bring new artists and designers to light that would not normally have the capability to print their own t-shirts. We don’t want to put any restrictions on the design other then what we give ourselves, size & color. Basically with this competition we just want the best that others can do. Even beyond size & color requirements don’t plagiarize, don’t take someone else ideas or designs.”
