JP Elliott’s Black Sun Viking Teaser

I mentioned on Twitter last week that I was working on a shirt design with my long-time friend J.P. Elliott. He’s been the driving force behind a lot of the Flying Coffin occult designs over the years and many of Mishka‘s killer tees. Rather than biting their style, I decided to hit up the source and do something legit. We chose to incorporate some Nordic imagery and it came out pretty bad-ass! While I can’t say what this will be used for right now, I can assure you that the design is one of my favorite Viking logos to date.

Thanks so much to J.P. for keeping it dark and raw.

ILE Inside Line Equipment: The Ultimate Photographers Bag

When I posted about needing a good, waterproof DSLR backpack, I got a few emails from bigger companies plugging their products but the email that caught my attention was from Eric at ILE. We shared some thoughts over email and I sketched out my ideas on a post-it note.

This quick, 2-minute sketch was what I sent him and the bag above is the end-product. It took him all month to finely tune in the design but the final result is amazing! ILE really did a stellar job on this one.

Etienne Chaize: Velologos

Etienne Chaize emailed me his latest project: interpretations of famous cycling brands. Read as he described his process:

“Famous logos of bicycle parts manufacturers, as an exercice to render materials, such as metal and colored glass. Logo design is All Rights Reserved to their respective owners, Cinelli, Colnago, Shimano and its Dura Ace brand.

Shapes are drawn in Illustrator, imported in Photoshop as masks, and then the handpainting begins!(Wacom tablet)”

Wit Industries: Fender Bender

Now that’s what I’m talking about. This simple and effective fender design from Wit Industries is taking the old ripped up sheet of cardboard trick to the next level.

Now, I wanna see someone make a fender based off the used soda bottle method. Sweet. Thanks for the heads up Pristine.

Nay Put Ye Foot Down

There is nothing better in this world than opening up an email to find an illustration like this attached. It’s simply amazing! Anthony sent this along earlier today and I’m blown-away at the detail. Here’s what he has to say:

“Admiring the graphic work on playing cards the other day, I wanted to render a viking illustration influenced by playing card design. Then I thought about using your viking logo as a heavy influence and a few days later finished what I had in mind.”

Dude. Wow. Thanks! Once I hear back from him, I’ll link to his portfolio site. In the meantime, what would you guys like to see this on?

Delta “Subduction Zones” Exhibition

Man, It’s been a while since I posted anything Delta-related. When I first saw his work in Holland back in 2004, I was in love. There’s something very architectural, in the Lebbeus Woods-sense about his work. Hypebeast reports that he has a new exhibit at Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw Concert Hall called “Subduction Zones”. Can someone go buy one of those pieces for me? The exhibition runs through April 25, 2011.

Affinity and Mission Workshop Installation Photos

Well, the Affinity and Mission Workshop‘s rad retail awesomeness installation is done. The guys have cleaned up the shop, dusted off the floors and placed the product inside this work of art. Behold, in all its glory, SF and Brooklyn together at last. This has gotta be the best installation I’ve seen the Mission Workshop crew do and that’s saying a lot because their shit is always dialed.

Edit: I added a few extras to this post. Check out more below!

Archdaily: Gregg’s Cycles by Weinstein A|U

Man, would I have killed to work on this project by Weinstein A|U for Gregg’s Cycles in Bellevue, Washington:

“Weinstein A|U designed the new 12,000 sqf building for Gregg’s Cycles to be a pure neutral container that highlights the bicycle. It was conceived as an elevated steel box that is supported structurally and programmatically by a CMU perimeter zone.”

More information is over at Arch Daily. I felt like it was about time for an architecture post and now I wanna visit this spot when I tour the West Coast this summer.
