Boston Bicycle Immortilized

One of my favorite modern cartoons is Assy McGee. Remember the Merckx Mondays post I made a bit back? Well, if you watch it again you’ll notice something that I missed the first time around.

I just caught this interesting bit of Boston history over on the Superb blog. In the same Assy McGee episode “Bikes for Bombs“, Assy goes to Radical Bike, an obvious flip to the late Boston Bicycle.

If that storefront looks familiar:

It’s because Boston Bicycle’s space is occupied currently by Superb! Pretty rad indeed. Check out my Superb Shop Visit post here and thanks to Superb for sharing!

Track Sabbath

Track Sabbath

This photo from Ashcan Collection’s Flickr had me tripping out last night. See that shirt on the left? How rad is that? I was hoping it was a forthcoming shirt from their line but turns out it’s a friend of the company’s goldsprints team shirt. Damn.

Before I found that out, I did a GIS for “Track Sabbath” and came up with this poster on Behance. How did I miss that? It was from October 2009. If either of those guys did a re-issue. I’d buy one!

Keystone Design Union & Brooklyn Machine Works: New Branding

You just can’t mess with Brooklyn. It’s one of the most creative neighborhoods in the States and no matter what, great things always come from it. Take this recent collaboration with KDU and BMW, two powerhouses in the 718. Joe from BMW has been telling me for months that they need a new website and from the looks of things, they picked the Keystone Design Union to do just that.

Check out some more of the new BMW branding below.

Site Improvement: Search and Tags Formatted

Site improvements are slowly trickling in. I implemented tags a little while ago and the next item on my list was increasing the search results and formatting the tag search and search results page. Well, yesterday Christian from Pedal Room and Fourteenteeth was kind enough to help me out. We’re still working on a bug or two but it’s up and running. Now when you search, or hit a tag in the sidebar, the results are much easier to digest!

Burro Bags: Artist Series

Jack from Burro shot me a link to the new Artist Series gallery on the Burro Flickr and a little background on the project:

“Hey everyone, really excited to share some pics of our latest run of Artist Series bags. The artists really outdid themselves this year as you can tell from the photos. Check out the Flickr set here.

If you don’t remember from previous years, this was our third annual art show featuring messenger bags, 6 pack bags and backpacks designed by local artists (and this year, an out-of-towner, the amazing Hannah Stouffer). The event went really well and we sold several bags the night of. The remaining bags are available now in our online store. Nearly all of the bags are one-offs that will never be seen again, but we plan on recreating a few of the designs throughout the year.”

These came out rad! Perfect gift for the holidays!

Ven Gist: Chromatic Guide to Gear Ratios

Taking something that’s been beaten like a dead horse over the years and presenting it in an interesting and creative way is what makes a good designer. Ven Gist did just that by creating a gear ratio infographic and turning it into a poster. I can honestly say all the times I’ve seen this information presented, this is by far the most impressive.

Check out the full poster below.

Alfian Hashim: Track Racers

Speaking of track racing. Now, I’m pretty keen on methods of post-processing but I cannot tell for the life of me if this piece by Alfian Hashim is a painting or a filter. You take a look at the full-res and tell me what you think. It is labeled painting on Flickr afterall. Nicely done regardless.

Kim Sielbeck Illustration: Greenpoint

Oh Greenpoint, how I miss you. While I admire this illustration by Kim Sielbeck, I’d say that it’d be more fitting to have the guy on a motorcycle. Greenpointees seem to be over track bikes. Nicely done! Check out more of Kim’s work here.

Deka: Killed by Drop Bars

Speaking of illustrations, Gilang Merdeka, aka Deka sent me this fan art he made of the Prolly Viking logo. He got it so right! 1″ quill stem, road drops and the wider the better. Solid love from Jakarta, Indonesia. Thanks man!
