Chris Piascik: All My Bikes 17

Last time I posted an illustration from Chris Piascik’s All My Bikes series, I mentioned that I would be cherry-picking the ones that I posted. I think Chris had a very similar experience as most of us. First you got your conversion. For me it was a Peugeot. Then you get a mail-order bike; Chris’ was a Kilo TT. Mine was an IRO angus. You realize the parts were shit (well, I ordered my Iro as a frameset and let a LBS build it) and you quickly start to replace the stock components. All this work and before you know it, you’ve dropped over $800 on a bike that could have easily been bought locally.

If I had a penny for every person that told me a story like this, I could buy a Jalapeno-cheddar bagel.

The Seattle Times: Tiny Apartment

Not only is this apartment an exceptional use of space but it’s owned by a cyclist. Steve Sauer’s tiny apartment in Seattle uses ever square inch of space in an innovative way. In fact, the only thing that I feel is lacking creativity is the way in which he displays his bikes. Surely you can think of something better than that! Check out the entire article at the Seattle Times.

Fahrstil – Das Radmagazin

Fahrstil translates to riding style from German. Das Radmagazin is the wheel magazine, a cycling journal. It’s beautifully composed with gorgeous photos. Check out an inside look to their first issue here.

Thanks to Jon “budhound” Two Tone ATL for the heads up on this!

Admittingly so, I’ve skipped a few of Chris’ All My Bikes series when he told me the number of bikes on his list. It’s just too much to post! I figured I’d just hit the benchmarks in the series instead. Chris brings to light his reasons for going fixed, which are the same reasons many of us started: commuting. Being in a city with sub-par public transit, Chris needed a quicker way around. Read up on his story here, at his blog!

Snow Blinded: Road Flare Print

Anthony Cozzi‘s posters deliver, year after year. Maybe that’s why, year after year, he’s invited to return to Art Crank? His newest print, perhaps best to date, is entitled Road Flare and it’s not just the purple halftone that’s got me fiending as much as the details. Holy shit. Screen printed on high quality 100lbs matte paper; Width 24″, Height 18″. It’s limited to 50, signed and numbered so grab one quick!

I still have your Dead Wheelie poster hanging up Anthony. Loving the series! Keep it up!

Bikes are Bikes

Bikes are Bikes

It’s not often that things like this get under my skin. The “I ride track bikes, not trick bikes” line was well worn out come 2008. Now with fixed freestyle’s increasing popularity, there seems to be a slight resurgence in this useless banter which is why I’m speaking for most of us who ride fixed freestyle when I say this.

Look, we all started riding fixed freestyle because we rode track bikes. Well, at least most of us anyway. I personally still ride my vintage track bike all the time, in fact usually more than my fixed freestyle. Bottom line is this: bikes are bikes. Don’t hate on derailleurs and freewheels until you’ve tried them. And who cares what kind of fixed gear you ride, just ride a bike!

End rant.

Ogilvy & Mather: Helmet PSAs

I’m not one for scare-tactic public safety ads. Sometimes, it’s just too much. The NYC anti-smoking ones are the worst. I don’t smoke so why do I need to see some photos of dissected lungs? Or rotten teeth? It’s gross and I don’t care to see that kinda shit when I’m ordering my egg and cheese sandwich. What I will say is the Taiwanese ad agency Ogilvy & Mather did a pretty good job on these Helmet PSA posters. I’ve seen them before and was indifferent to posting them, knowing that even though I try to, I sometimes ride without my helmet and there’s nothing worse than a hypocrite. It wasn’t until I saw these reposted on Go Means Go via Brussels Bike Polo that I decided to put them up on a Friday.

Wanna see two more? Check them out below…

Falling victim to design marketing, Chris’ next bike was a Specialized Fatboy. Dude, you really were into funky frame designs weren’t you? On a slightly-related note, I think this is the longest “Previously” list to date on this blog. How many more bikes do you have man? haha
