Martin Angelov’s Kolelinia

Martin Angelov’s Kolelinia

Martin Angelov’s Koleinia is a radical (pun intended) proposal for urban cyclists looking for one more advantage over the congestion-causing cars in our cities. In school, I was all about looking at urban “hold out” spaces being utilized in new and interesting ways. This project definitely falls into that category. There’s a few more images of Angelov’s proposal below. It’ll be easier to understand the proposal, verses the rendering above, which is more about a graphic representation of his intent.

Landlords Website is Live

Landlords is live! Not much information up right now, but the online store is locked and loaded. Grab a copy of their hand-bound, hardback, full color book here. Here’s their description of the project:

World renowned cycling and literary impresario Phil Legit delivers another compelling title, this time delving deep into the world of bike messenger life and leisure. Its shattered focus centers sharply on a known group of couriers called “Landlords Cycling Club”. This unique publication travels far above and beyond the traditional “portrait of a person standing in front of a bicycle” bike messenger book, actually taking you inside the collective consciousness of this clandestine crew. Offered for a limited time as a Publish By Request Only book, purchasing now insures you the ability to own your own original copy.

Sammy Black for Heavy Pedal

Man. I’m speechless. This is so rad. According to Heavy Pedal, Sammy Black approached them to put one of his pieces onto a shirt for the blog. The dudes obviously accepted his offer. Who wouldn’t? Looks killer!

Now, who’s got a link to Sammy’s portfolio site?

Lamour Supreme Fixed Fiend

I remember when I first saw this over three years ago. Since then, Joel’s work, under his moniker Lamour Supreme, has gained a massive following in the Kaiju world. His custom-painted vinyl toys and even the toys he designed, sell for a good amount of money. You can imagine my surprise when last year, for my birthday, he handed me over this original inked drawing. Well I finally got around to putting it in a frame and there it will stay.

Thanks again Joel. It means a lot!

Wait till you see what he’s got in store for 2010! For all his crazy antics and full-time ball-busting of yours truly, follow him on Twitter.

I Love My Bike Book

Matthew emailed me a few weeks ago to introduce a project he and Brittain were working on. They wanted to travel around the country, documenting cyclists with their bikes and put all of the photos in a book. Seems ambitious right? They’re based in Boston and for the next few weeks the two photographers be traveling all over the United States setting up meetings with cyclists to document their bike and why they love it. The project’s name is called the “I Love My Bike Book”. More information below.

Justin has been working on these bikes for what seems to be ages. He brought one with him to the NACCCs this year and is always riding one around the neighborhood. Along with his partner, Sean Murray, he recently opened Bamboo Bike Studio in Brooklyn.

Wow. Stunning man. If you’ve got a love of architecture and 12 minutes to sit back and watch this video, do so. I was literally blown away at the caliber of photorealism and cinematography in these renderings. Here’s the description:

A FULL-CG animated piece that tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects
are already-built spaces. Sometimes in an abstract way. Sometimes surreal.

Landlords Cycling Book

I can’t find any information on where to buy it, but this new book looks interesting. Rather than showing snap shots or images to promote it, Phil at Landlords Cycling did a little flip-through of the book and a walk through of his bike room (some nice rides hanging on that wall I might add). That cover graphic would be rad on a t-shirt.

Check out the website, when it launches tomorrow, here.

Well, the cat’s out of the bag. I’ve been busting my ass working towards this goal for some time now; on top of my full-time day job working at an Architecture studio, getting in some riding, doing this blog and maintaining minimal levels of sanity.

Andrew Hem: One Leads to Another

So I was going to let the previous post stay up all day, but I came across this post on Animal NY and had to put it up for the West Coast readers out there.

Andrew Hem is having a solo exhibition in January at Culver City’s LeBasse Projects. His work is heavily influenced by LA graffiti / street lifestyle and the time he spent in Cambodia. The blank stare of this track bike rider as people ignite and throw Molotov cocktails in the background is just one example of his work. Check out the rest at Animal NY.

Be sure to ride out to the opening party for “One Leads to Another”, January 16, 2010 at the LeBasse Projects in Culver City, California.

London 2012 Velo Park

London 2012 Velo Park

Progress is being made on London’s Olympic park; specifically, the Velodrome and BMX portion of the park, called the Velo Park. As the video points out, the Velodrome will be complete January 2011, giving London a bit of home field advantage as their team will be training on the track immediately. The Velo Park is massive, with 6,000 indoor seats and the outdoor BMX circuit will have 6,000 temporary seats. With the growth of cycling worldwide over the past few years, officials speculate that the park will be one of the larger attractions during the Olympics.

Check out a rendering below.
