Fixed Fiend

I have to thank my dear friend Joel, aka Lamour Supreme, for this belated birthday present. When he said “I have something for you”, I suspected it’d be some limited edition toy he splooged on worth millions in Japan. When I saw him 2 weeks ago, he brought out a portfolio and handed me a piece of paper.

It’s the original Demon On A Track drawing!!!!

I just got a frame for it and am beyond stoked. This is the best birthday present anyone’s ever given me. So bad ass man!

THANK YOU!

Alsop Chips

rendering and reality

A reader forwarded me this project by Alsop Architecture. They said it was ‘right up my alley’ and they were very right. When I first saw it, I immediately thought it was an MVRDV project. I was wrong obviously. Hell, I even thought it was a Dutch project. Wrong again. This 8-story project was just completed in Manchester.

The parti model of stacking blocks is very much a dutch approach to architecture. In fact, I’m not ruling out that Alsop used MVRDV as a precedent of sorts for it. The project is entitled Chips and consists of “3 fat chips stacked on top of each other”. While most projects relate to the context via vernacular stylings, Chips relates through the use of super graphics.

Each mass has text on it that relates to its surrounding neighborhood.

Pretty rad! Head over to Alsop to see more images.

FGLDN & 14 Bike Co Frame by Ted James

I know it’s already been posted everywhere, but there’s something I want to emphasize here…

Look, everyone is into this new cool thing called fixed gears and it seems like in the past few months, we’re seeing more and more people express their love for it in various ways. Some people blog, some photograph, some videotape, some write articles, some build, some create and some market. It’s really great and we need to support this! Hell, if you have an idea, run with it!

This project is the by-product of real man hours. That man is “Super” Ted James. I’ve yet to meet Ted, but one day I’d hope to. As always, I extend a welcoming hand to NYC anytime Ted!

14 Bike Co is a recently opened shop in London. Super Ted is building 14 bikes for the shops 14 riders. Those chain gang guys and gals are slowly receiving their frames at the mo’ [how’s that for vernacular slang?] and even though that’s not the final fork [in fact, that’s an aftermarket fork], Ted’s busy designing and cranking away at these bikes. You can see more pictures here and follow their updates here, at their blog.

Ted, FGLDN and 14 Bike Co, I commend you. GREAT JOB!

Shooting for Empire Today

Hippo jokes aside, we did shoot some lines for Empire today. We asked Andrew Temkin to come out and snap some shots for the book. Here’s a great portrait he took of my bike and me.

Thanks Andy!

Arik Roper, the man behind the some of the album artwork of Sleep, High on Fire, Earth and others has a new book out called Mushroom Magick. I missed the opening party last Friday, which I’m bummed about, but the book is now available!

Roper also did a recent collaboration with Mishka, which will be available shortly!

Affinity Facelift

Affinity just got a new facelift last weekend. Rimx came in and painted a huge mural. He started Thursday night and it took him until the wee hours of the morning to finish it.

Came out dope. Swing by the shop to check it out!

They should be getting in another addition to the shop soon. Something I helped them out on.

Oh Snap Toku

From what I can tell, this guy Toku rides hard. He’s always making appearances on Sexy Sushi‘s Flickr riding his neon BMW.

These two recent uploads, in grainy black and white are tell tale signs of the riding that’s going on today.

Great shots man!

Chainring Cog Sprocket

Wilis made me a pretty rad birthday present this year. I usually don’t make a big deal about that time every year, so I don’t ever expect anything from anyone. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed with this canvas and am stoked to have it.

Thanks man!

Boards

So I’ve been meaning to post this for a few weeks but just never got around to it. Two weeks ago, Morgan, the guy who cased the 16 set in Vancouver was visiting NYC. He brought with him a few prints from Travis Jutson.

This one in particular is really great. The digital image doesn’t do the printed version justice. Thanks man!
