On my recent trip to California, my mornings and afternoons were spent combing the roads for ideal backdrops. Here’s a few outtakes that are free to consume. Please, don’t fret, the weekend’s coming soon.

Recent Roll: Dave Trimble of Red Hook Crit
The light in Northern California is just magnificent when it pours through redwoods like this. Here’s a photo of Dave Trimble, founder of Red Hook Crit soaking in the waining daylight. I shot this just 8 hours after he landed in the States from Italy for the Red Hook Crit Milano.

Wide Open California
Over the past year, I’ve had the absolutely amazing experience of riding extensively in California but this last trip might have been my favorite. We rode on the 1, the 128 and in Geyserville. From the Redwoods, to the coast and dry, arid hills, the scenery kept me shooting my 35mm point and shoot, mid pedal stroke. Check it out below!

Enjoy the Ride
It’s the weekend, I’ll be busy covering the Philly Bike Expo, so don’t expect any updates. Instead, head out and get on the road. I wish I could ride on the 1 every day.

Pit Stop
There’s nothing better than drinking from the Earth after a mean Cat 2 climb in 90+ degree weather. Last weekend, a big group of us did the Geyserville loop and after the initial descent, there was a water trough filled with ice cold spring water. I took my Hasselblad out of the videographer’s car and snapped a few shots of my Geekhouse resting on this oasis.

Some of My Favorite Photos

Recent Roll: Here’s to the Open Road
I got my film back from last week’s riding in Northern California and there are some straight up road porn shots in there. Take this for instance. Who knew that the 128 is this gorgeous! It’ll be a little bit before I post the rest of the photos, but for now, enjoy the open road.

Brenton Salo: Blue Beauty
The blues of this Cannondale track bike really compliment the Autumn vibes in the photo. Brenton, once again with the superb composition. Love this man.

The Albion Posted Up My Hasselblad Photos from Texas Toast
I love shooting medium format photos at events like Texas Toast. Why? Because it’s fun! And that’s what I did this year with my Hasselblad. Two rolls of film, 24 exposures and they’re up at the Albion right now. Head over to check them out!

Recent Roll: Ian and His Icarus Track Machine Prototype
So Ian at Icarus has been working on this monster track machine for a little while. The idea is that bigger track racers, like 200+ lb sprinters, need a stiff bike and weight isn’t really a big of an issue. So he’s gone oversize everywhere he can. He’s still working on the frame, in his down time but this thing would rip the boards off a velodrome underneath the right racer…

#NatureVibes 02
The last Recent Roll Nature Vibes post got a lot of love and while Texas is far from the Northwest, it still has its share of aw inspiring landscapes. Last weekend the lady and I made the trek to Enchanted Rock about 100 miles northwest of Austin. This large batholith is the third largest formation in the world, and second in the US. We managed to sneak in before the crowds so I got some surreal landscape shots with the Hasselblad.

Love
I don’t have children and yet I understand why parents always have a camera in their kids’ face. It’s love, right?

Texas Toast is This Weekend!
If you’re within driving distance of Austin, or you’re already here for ACL, you better make it out to the Odyssey BMX Texas Toast Jam this weekend. It’s bigger and better than last year, with a tighter, more techy dirt section, a new and improved Gauntlet of Death, better street course and even a flatland section. I went out yesterday to check in on the guys and it’s a lovely, colorful mess of ramps and paint right now. Some of which look dreadfully fun to shred.

Locked Up: Josh’s LOW
When I see an American-made bicycle Locked Up in front of this mural outside the Liberty, I have to take a photo of it. Especially when it’s a blazing hot bike like Josh’s LOW.

Randomness by Bike
I love finding a roll of film you thought you lost. This one roll of Ektar was sitting in the bottom of my bag and I had no idea where or when it was from. Turns out, it was in my Contax T2 and I had taken it all over. Indonesia, Bali, along the ATOC, the RGR and finally, Austin. This is all randomness, pure and simple. Check it out below.

Have a Great Weekend
Enjoy the cool weather, shorter days and colder nights. Each weekend, summer tries to hold on a little longer. Savor it out on your bike and celebrate harder than you ride.

Bali!
I thought I lost this roll of film somewhere overseas but as I was cleaning my office, I found one last roll from Bali. So I dropped it off to get developed and viola, vacation vibes all over again. These are all completely random and the film crops are all off (gotta fix that setting on my scanner) but they’re all pretty good!
