Ride Along: Garrett Kautz from Strawfoot
Ride Along: Garrett Kautz from Strawfoot
Words and photos by John Watson
Strawfoot is one of those companies that has gained a lot of momentum over the past year in the cycling industry because of social media and word of mouth. While Strawfoot is a bag company, they’re most known for their socks. I was first introduced to Garrett from Brian Vernor last year, when I visited his small shop in Santa Cruz.
Over the past few months, Strawfoot has grown. They’ve moved to a bigger shop, are sponsoring a cross team and yes, he’s continued making socks, which sell out almost immediately…

Interviewed: Robin Sansom – Brand Manager at Blackburn Design
As both a “journalist” and a consumer, I get really excited when I see something new coming from a brand, especially one with a history like Blackburn. In recent months, I’ve gotten to know the brand a bit better, both through their Meet the Rangers program and from a product perspective. I’ve seen a few of their forthcoming products, many of which I think you’ll be stoked on but before those roll out, I thought you’d appreciate a little Q&A with the brand.
To give the readers of the Radavist some insight into Blackburn’s modus operandi, I reached out to brand manager, Robin Sansom for an interview.

Garrett Chow on the Argonaut Mavic 125ans Road Bike
Garrett Chow is an exceptional designer and I’m very fond of his work. In today’s industry, so many cycling-related projects rely on paint design, meaning it’s the ultimate crux in a project’s success.
It’s easy to draw some chevrons, or paint a logo a pantone and call it a day, but to really dive into data, something that’s typically not visually stimulating and pull a compelling paint job from a series of numbers and historical markers takes talent.
With the recent Mavic 125ans project bikes, I took a liking to Argonaut‘s design. There was information there and it required you to stop and really examine every aspect of the bike. There were a lot of immaculate paint jobs in the 125ans bikes, but this one was more than that…

Distance Over Time
I’m stoked to see this as a Vimeo pick!
“Distance Over Time follows the truly inspirational story of James Golding, a man who has beaten incredible odds to achieve extraordinary things. From weighing 6 stone and being too weak to walk 5 years ago to taking on one of the most savage cycling records ever undertaken, Spindle Productions followed James’ remarkable journey.”

Tim Krabbé on Riding
Bike racing can change your life, no matter how old you are:
“Riding was inspired by Tim’s participation in the Tour of Flanders 2014 cyclo-tourist ride of 245 km. At the age of 71, Tim is still an active cyclist. His novel The Rider, first published in 1978 and translated into English in 2002, is considered to be “the best writing on the subjective experience of cycle-racing”.
In this short documentary we interweave Tim’s moving story with historical photos from his ‘first racing life’ and his participation in the Tour of Flanders, which symbolizes his ‘second racing life’.”
