Today I Watched the UCI Pro Women Crush the 2014 Mellow Johnny’s Classic

Yesterday, I got the hair brained idea to race the 2014 Mellow Johnny’s Classic at Flat Creek Ranch outside of Austin. I’ve never raced MTBs before, but figured what the hell? My buddy Hanson Little and I drove out, paid the $40 and raced. I started at the back and made it up to 4th. Hanson got 3rd. We were stoked but the highlight of the day for me was watching the UCI Pro Women absolutely crush the course. Check out the recording from the day here and the results here.

Team LUNA Chix was in top form, absolutely shredding every lap, leading the pack by well over a few minutes. It was really great watching these women rip the course apart! While I didn’t make a big deal about shooting photos today (man, it was hot), I did manage to get a few worth sharing. Check them out in the Gallery!

Watch The Armstrong Lie Here

In 2009, Academy Award®-winning director Alex Gibney (2007, Best Documentary, Taxi to the Dark Side) was hired to make a film about Lance Armstrong’s comeback to cycling. The project was shelved when the doping scandal erupted, and re-opened after Armstrong’s confession. THE ARMSTRONG LIE picks up in 2013 after Armstrong was stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles, and presents a riveting, insider’s view of the unraveling of the greatest deception in sports history.

I wish I could let you watch the Armstrong Lie on the site for free. Instead, here’s an embedded movie where you can pay $3.99 to rent it. I’ve seen it and it’s worth the watch!

Attention Pro Cyclists: Please Send Manual for Speed Your Selfies

Last week, in a very sedated state, I requested that my friends at Manual for Speed do a feature unlike anything professional cycling has done before: #SelfieSundays. Yes, I want to see pro cyclists take selfies with their phones or cameras. Or camera phones even. Well, the call to arms is here:

You heard them! Yes, you have to be PRO to submit the selfie. Wait, do pros even read this site?

Rapha Cycle Club NYC: Greg LeMond Exhibition Opens Tomorrow

Three-time Tour winner Greg LeMond is having an exhibition at the Rapha Cycle Club NYC beginning tomorrow. To kickstart the event, Jeremy Dunn put together an interview with the cycling legend at the Rapha Blog which I recommend reading. This interview coincides with a forthcoming collection of clothing including a jersey, sun sleeves and a cap called To the Sun.

For those who are in NYC, I send warmth and sun your way, I got more than enough in LA this week! If you can make it out of your home, head over tomorrow to see the exhibition, which includes a few featured pieces:

CX Hairs: #SVENNESS 2.17

This is it, the final race of the year for #SVENNESS. This one takes place in Hoogerheide, Netherlands for the 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Championship. Surely by now you’ve seen how brutal this course was, so sit back and enjoy!

Excellent job this year, CX Hairs!

Manual for Speed does Dubai Tour

So… from drop bears, utes, sunburns, #Upgradecreds and other ‘Strayan things, Manual for Speed jumped on a flying machine and headed over to Dubai for the Dubai Tour. While this Tour Team Presentation post is cute, I love the non-photo essay on Emirati Women.

Head over to Manual for Speed for more!

Half the Road: A Documentary About Professional Women’s Cycling

While America watches grown men wearing spandex slam into each other repetedly tonight (no, it’s not a Cat 5 road crit), I’m more stoked on hearing that the ASO announced there will be a women’s race at the 2014 Tour de France. Also, I thought it was coincidental that this documentary came across my radar last week…

Half the Road is a documentary that explores the world of women’s professional cycling and why there is a great deal of inequality in the sport. But it’s not a solely a call for action, it also features Kathryn Bertine’s quest to make the 2012 Olympics. You can read about it more here and donate here!

CX Hairs: #SVENNESS 2.16

When I saw coverage from Soudal Classics Cyclocross Series, all I could think was one thing: dream course. That’s the kind of cross races I love… You know, the ones that look like MTB races. #SVENNESS is killing it this season!
