When it comes to the UCI Track Cycling World Championships, I know where to go for photos: British Cycling. Each year they offer up a selection of moments from the weekend’s event that are too good to pass up. See more at the British Cycling Flickr.
One day I’d love to shoot photos at this event.
Yesterday, I got the hair brained idea to race the 2014 Mellow Johnny’s Classic at Flat Creek Ranch outside of Austin. I’ve never raced MTBs before, but figured what the hell? My buddy Hanson Little and I drove out, paid the $40 and raced. I started at the back and made it up to 4th. Hanson got 3rd. We were stoked but the highlight of the day for me was watching the UCI Pro Women absolutely crush the course. Check out the recording from the day here and the results here.
Team LUNA Chix was in top form, absolutely shredding every lap, leading the pack by well over a few minutes. It was really great watching these women rip the course apart! While I didn’t make a big deal about shooting photos today (man, it was hot), I did manage to get a few worth sharing. Check them out in the Gallery!

The project was shelved when the doping scandal erupted, and re-opened after Armstrong’s confession. THE ARMSTRONG LIE picks up in 2013 after Armstrong was stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles, and presents a riveting, insider’s view of the unraveling of the greatest deception in sports history.
I wish I could let you watch the Armstrong Lie on the site for free. Instead, here’s an embedded movie where you can pay $3.99 to rent it. I’ve seen it and it’s worth the watch!

To commemorate the premiere of Nelson Vails’ documentary, Cheetah, Cinelli made a run of limited edition caps, designed from the skinsuit he wore during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics match sprint. Three-time Tour winner Greg LeMond is having an exhibition at the Rapha Cycle Club NYC beginning tomorrow. To kickstart the event, Jeremy Dunn put together an interview with the cycling legend at the Rapha Blog which I recommend reading. This interview coincides with a forthcoming collection of clothing including a jersey, sun sleeves and a cap called To the Sun.

This is it, the final race of the year for #SVENNESS. This one takes place in Hoogerheide, Netherlands for the 2014 UCI Cyclocross World Championship. Surely by now you’ve seen how brutal this course was, so sit back and enjoy!

With all of the carnage (seriously look at that link) at this year’s race, it’s been dubbed the “cyclocrash world championships”. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed more wrecks in a race before.
I can’t wait to see what Emily Maye has from that event! For now, this will have to do!
While America watches grown men wearing spandex slam into each other repetedly tonight (no, it’s not a Cat 5 road crit), I’m more stoked on hearing that the ASO announced there will be a women’s race at the 2014 Tour de France. Also, I thought it was coincidental that this documentary came across my radar last week…
Half the Road is a documentary that explores the world of women’s professional cycling and why there is a great deal of inequality in the sport. But it’s not a solely a call for action, it also features Kathryn Bertine’s quest to make the 2012 Olympics. You can read about it more here and donate here!
